God's Kindness

GOD’S KINDNESS EXPERIENCED TROUGH THE CARE GIVEN TO A DOWNED CYCLIST!

This is part two describing how my faith in God was strengthened through a very serious accident. God demonstrated that He is a loving, compassionate, very present help in time of trouble. God demonstrated this after experiencing an SUV striking me from behind while cycling. I was not riding a motorcycle, I was exercising on a two pedal, two wheel, twenty something pound expensive bicycle.

I have to confess that after admission to the fourth floor trauma unit of Parkview North I do not remember much. The immediate concern was my blacking out as I sat up in bed when trying to stand. My hemoglobin was under 9 and God healed where I was losing blood and the infusion of hemoglobin rose the level above 16 by Thursday. Through painful x-rays of shoulder and body it was determined that I had three stable fractures of my pelvis, and a stable fracture of my L2 and a stage three separated shoulder, which meant I did not need surgery anywhere. Yaa Lord!

We were convinced that I needed inpatient rehabilitation and we decided to be transferred to Parkview Randalia to stay within the Parkview system. After a long wait on Friday evening about 11:30 two EMS personal arrived at my room. As they were about to transfer me from my bed to their gurney the female alerted me that this was really going to hurt. What immediately came out of my mouth cracked us all up – “I have been hit by an SUV you cannot hurt me!” Lol!

That was a very condensed description of my first week. I recently found out that my daughter Cathryn and her friend Luke visited three times and I have no recollection of that at all. But God met me through so many people.

There was a nurse practitioner, I think. She came in every morning to ask how I was doing and go over things with me, she represented the orthopedic doctor assigned to my care. The first morning she actually knelt by my bed to address me. I remember her as if it was this morning. She exhibited such compassion, care, concern, and comfort that God knew I needed in those days. The nurses would take time to sit with me and Saundra as we would describe the accident and tell them how our God had rescued and protected me from death and we all worshipped Him for it.

God had orchestrated that the nurses who cared for me all had a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. We had holy moments together as we rehearsed the goodness of God not only to me but in their lives as well. Every time Saundra and I had a chance to tell the story of God’s kindness and goodness in our lives through this incident it was met with joy and a wonderful sense of worship as we were amazed at the wonder of who God is, and how He works.
