God's Faithfulness
GOD'S CONTROL WITNESSED FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A DOWNED CYCLIST

This is part one of a three part series how I discovered the lengths God will go for His children.
It was a beautiful early summer day, the sun shining brightly, no clouds anywhere, warm in the eighties when I left my home in the early afternoon for a forty mile bike ride. I remember turning around after twenty-one miles. The next thing I realized I was in an EMS unit, someone was cutting off my jersey and cycling bibs. My first thought was “Wait, no, those are expensive and my wife will not like that.” My second thought was “Hold on, I have nothing on underneath.” Lol, Out! (Unconscious)
I realized someone was asking my name? I know I said something like George Washington, thinking to myself no that is not it, c’mon Brad you can do this! I gave him my real name. He asked me my wife’s name, to which I said something equally strange until I heard what I said and again, c’mon Brad you got this, to which I replied Saundra. And so it went; my address, my phone number, her phone number, all equally bizarre answers followed by the truth. Out!
The first responders told me I had been hit by a vehicle traveling in excess of 60 mph. Out!
I remember bits of the helicopter ride. Out!
I remember seeing Saundra in the ER for a brief moment. Out!
I remember two nurses trying to get me to sit up in bed in the ER. Out!
This all happened within the first hour of being struck by an SUV.
Here is why our family continues to grow in love with our God! An EMS unit was sitting not less than a mile away waiting for a patient transfer from Huntington to Whitley county hospitals and arrived on the scene within moments after the call. We learned after that the Samaritan helicopter, was near and available. God did that! Despite my worst efforts at answering important questions, (Lol) the first responders were professional, well trained, compassionate, and we remain eternally grateful. God granted a driver that actually stopped, the officials stated that rarely happens these days, he was remorseful and tried calling 911. Two eye witnesses were behind the driver that struck me and the lady across the road on the other side of her barn working in her garden heard the crash and after she ran over to see the commotion was actually the one who made contact with 911, no cell service in the location. God was on the move! I was in and out of consciousness, completely unaware of all my injuries, but at rest. I was able to see Saundra, finding out that Cathryn, our daughter, was aware of the situation and that I was alive was a relief. But the ‘rest’ was a spiritual rest that our God, my God, had brought me through something many cyclists do not recover from; why me?
